John Alec Entwistle, né le 9 octobre 1944, décédé le 27 juin 2002, musicien britannique, était le bassiste du groupe The Who. Il est considéré comme l'un des plus talentueux et importants bassistes de tous le temps. Véritable virtuose, il a changé la perception de son instrument, sa place au sein d'un groupe de rock, et ce, dès le premier succès du groupe, My Generation, en 1965, ponctué d'un solo de basse exécuté à une étonnante rapidité. Il créait avec les Who un véritable mur de son, faisant tenir tout l'ensemble, particulièrement sur scène.
En 2000, la revue anglaise Guitar magazine l'a désigné Meilleur Bassiste du Millénaire[1].
