Joey Tempest est un chanteur et musicien suèdois né le 19 août 1963 à Stockholm.
Il apprend à jouer de la guitare à l'âge de sept ans grâce à un ami de son père. À l'âge de dix ans il décide d'apprendre à jouer du piano après avoir entendu Elton John sur la radio.
Il trouve enfin sa première passion, écrire des chansons. Un album qui l'a principalement inspiré: Space Oddity de David Bowie.
Joey obtient sa première guitare électrique et forme son premier groupe, appelé Jet, à l'âge de 11 ans.
Il rencontre John Norum a l'âge de quinze ans et forme bientôt le groupe Force, prémice de ce que sera Europe. Il a été influencé par des albums comme, Stranger of the Night de UFO, Live and Dangerous de Thin Lizzy, et Made in Japan de Deep Purple.
Il habite actuellement à Londres avec son épouse Lisa et leur fils James Joakim.
