Leif Ericsson (v. 975-v. 1020) (ancien islandais : Leifr Eiríksson) était un explorateur islandais qui fut le premier Européen à explorer des terres de l'Amérique du nord, et plus particulièrement la région qui deviendra Terre-neuve, au Canada.
Il était le fils d'Érik le Rouge (Eiríkr rauði) et petit-fils de Thorvald Ásvaldsson, mis tous deux hors la loi en Norvège pour meurtres et réfugiés en Islande occidentale. C'est là que naquit Leif. A nouveau banni, Erik emmena sa famille au Groenland.
Le premier voyage de Leif l'emmena en Norvège à la cour du roi Olaf Tryggvason qui sut le convaincre de se convertir au christianisme et d'emmener un prêtre au Groenland, ce qui déplut profondément à son père.
