Peta Wilson est née le 18 novembre 1970 à Sydney. En raison du travail de son père, elle déménagera une douzaine de fois avant l'âge de 13 ans, et passera une grande partie de son adolescence en Nouvelle-Guinée, ce qui explique son goût pour les voyages.
A la fin de ses études, elle débute une carrière de mannequin en Europe avant de déménager, une nouvelle fois, à Los Angeles en 1991 pour se concentrer sur sa véritable vocation: être actrice.
Grâce à sa rencontre avec le réalisateur Damian Harris, elle suit des cours de comédie et obtient de nombreux petits rôles dans des films et des séries télévisées.
En 1997, elle décroche le premier rôle de la série Nikita.
On la connaît en France essentiellement pour sa prestation dans Terminator 3 et La ligue des gentlemen extraordinaires....
