Michael Faraday (Londres, 22 septembre 1791 - Hampton Court, 25 août 1867) est un physicien anglais.
À l'âge de 14 ans, Michael Faraday commença un apprentissage de relieur, mais durant sa septième année d'apprentissage il développa un intérêt pour la science. Après qu'il eut envoyé un extrait de ses notes à Humphry Davy, celui-ci le prit comme assistant. Cependant, dans une société gouvernée par les classes, il n'était pas considéré comme un gentleman.
Ses plus grand travaux concernèrent l'électricité. En 1821, après la découverte du phénomène de l'électromagnétisme par le chimiste danois Ørsted, Faraday construisit deux appareils pour produire ce qu'il appela une rotation électromagnétique : le mouvement circulaire continu d'une force magnétique autour d'un fil, en fait la démonstration d'un moteur électrique.
