Jiles Perry Richardson alias Big Bopper est un chanteur américain né le 24 octobre 1930 à Sabine Passage au Texas, décédé le 3 février 1959 à Clear Lake dans l'Iowa, aux États-Unis.
La famille Richardson s’installe à Beaumont. Se passionnant pour le monde du divertissement, il obtiendra un diplôme de technicien en Radiodiffusion et Télévision.
Lors de son passage sous le drapeau américain, celui-ci sera affecté en tant qu’instructeur radar.
De retour à la vie civile, il sera disc jockey sur la radio locale KTRM. C’est à cette époque qu’il prendra le surnom de Big Bopper : son émission « La grande exposition de Bopper » deviendra célèbre et il sera nommé directeur des programmes. En 1957, il aura à son actif un record du monde, le Discathon : le programme le plus long en diffusant 1821 titres sur six jours.
