Militaire ( Anglais) Né le 25 avril 1599Décédé le 03 septembre 1658 (à l'âge de 59 ans) Oliver Cromwell (Huntingdon, 25 avril 1599 – Londres, 3 septembre 1658) est un militaire anglais qui règne sur l'Angleterre, sous le titre de Lord Protecteur, pendant les années 1640 jusqu'à sa mort en 1658. Cromwell naît à Huntingdon, ville de l'Est du pays, et étudie à l'Université de Cambridge. Il vit comme fermier-gentilhomme, membre de la gentry, jusqu'au début de la première guerre civile anglaise, en 1642, quand il mène ses ouvriers (en fait une armée recrutée par ses soins) au service du Parlement. Après son service militaire, il devient un homme politique remarqué, et il est le seul apparemment capable de gouverner après la mort du roi Charles Ier. Caricature hollandaise représentant Olivier Cromwell en monarqueEn 1620, il épouse Elisabeth Bourchier, et obtient un siège au Parlement en 1628. Mais lorsque celui-ci est dissous, en 1629, il retourne gérer la fortune paternelle.
