Le Major Richard D. Winters né le 21 janvier 1918 à Lancaster en Pennsylvanie, et mort le 2 janvier 2011 en Pennsylvanie[1], est un officier de l'Armée des États-Unis et un vétéran de la guerre. Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il commanda la Easy Company du 506th RIP (Parachute Infantry Regiment), 2ème bataillon, la 101e division aéroportée.
Avec la Easy Company, Richard Dick Winters fut parachuté en Normandie aux toutes premières heures du jour J, combattit à travers la France, la Belgique, les Pays-Bas et finit par rentrer en Allemagne. Plus tard lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Richard Dick Winters accéda au commandement du 2ème bataillon. À la fin du conflit, il fut libéré de ses obligations militaires, retourna à la vie civile et travailla dans le New Jersey.
En 1951, pendant la guerre de Corée, Winters fut rappelé par l'armée et servit brièvement en tant qu'organisateur...
