Les meneurs de l'assassinat de César attribuèrent à Brutus le rôle de fidèle poursuivant des traditions familiales en dépeignant César comme avide du titre de roi et de l'autorité royale. Il se suicida avec Cassius en prononcant ces mots "les moeurs ne sont que des mots" bataille de Philippes le 23 octobre 42 av. J.-C....
