Níkos Kazantzákis ou improprement, Kazantzaki, est un écrivain grec né à Héraklion, (Crète) le 18 février 1883 et décédé le 26 octobre 1957 à Fribourg-en-Brisgau (Allemagne). Penseur influencé par Nietzsche et Bergson, il a également adhéré au marxisme et au bouddhisme, tout en étant profondément chrétien. Journaliste envoyé comme correspondant dans diverses régions du monde, notamment pendant la Guerre d'Espagne pour le quotidien Kathimeriní, il a par ailleurs exercé à diverses reprises des fonctions officielles en Grèce, notamment en organisant le rapatriement des centaines de milliers de réfugiés micrasiates suite à la révolution russe de 1917 et au démantèlement de l’Empire ottoman en 1922 et un bref passage au gouvernement après la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
