Anthony Minghella est un réalisateur, scénariste, producteur et acteur britannique, né le 6 janvier 1954 sur l’île de Wight. Il meurt subitement à Londres le 18 mars 2008, à l’âge de 54 ans d’une hémorragie cérébrale à la suite d’une intervention sur une tumeur au cou.
Son père était italien/écossais et sa mère venait de Leeds. Il étudia à Sandown Grammar School et à St. John's College (Portsmouth). Il est licencié de l'Université de Hull, où il continua après sa licence.
Pendant les années 1980 il travailla à la télévision, où il écrivit Grange Hill pour la BBC et The Storyteller pour Jim Henson. Il travailla aussi pour la série Inspector Morse.
