Gary Gygax (27 juillet 1938 - 4 mars 2008) ou de son vrai nom Ernest Gary Gygax, était un écrivain américain et un concepteur de jeu dans le domaine du jeu de rôle.
Il est surtout connu pour avoir coécrit avec Dave Arneson, et co-publié avec Don Kaye en 1973 sous licence Tactical Studies Rules (TSR Inc.), le premier et le plus célèbre jeu de rôle : Donjons et Dragons (abbrév. D&D, anglais : Dungeons & Dragons)[3].
Gary Gygax est souvent considéré comme le père du jeu de rôle moderne.
Le premier jeu publié par Gygax fut Chainmail, un wargame avec figurines inspiré du Seigneur des Anneaux et écrit avec Jeff Perren en 1966. Les choix de ce jeu tactique devaient influencer durablement les jeux de rôle.
Il fonda ensuite la compagnie Tactical studies rules (TSR) et publia la première version de D&D en janvier 1974, ainsi que ses notes de campagne dans le monde de Faucongris (Greyha...
